Deadwall for Shooting Range

Anyone have any tips for constructing a deadwall for a personal shooting range?

What materials, how thick, etc.
I just have a pallet leaning against the side of my hill with cans and targets on it and shoot at that. Any bullets that miss go into the hill! Then again if you don’t have a hill, just ignore everything I said! lol

Google tires for a shooting range. I haven't gotten around to it yet, as my current close one works fine. It's used for pistol primarily. I go to just shy of 1000 yds. Just a thick dirt berm for that. Not alot of energy at that distance unless you're shooting a 300 prc.

You might try looking through this website for reusable, repurposed stuff. I believe I read that someone used conveyor belts as part of a deadwall one time. You can subscribe to their email list and see plenty of interesting ideas for all types of stuff they take in. Presume you are in Iowa:

I have about 12 acres and want to put up a dirt mound back stop for a shooting range. Behind the backstop will be a few acres of woods before the next nearest property. How much dirt do I need to build a small mound that will make an adequate backstop? I'll be shooting .22, .223/5.56, .38, .40, and .44.
