Dealing with possible mite problem

I understand, I wasn't doing it for the "natural" solution, I just don't have the car for a few days and figured garlic etc. Wouldn't hurt. Also DE dried up my coop (after cleaning) not much will be blown about to make dust. ( I only dust their backs and butts at point blank range because I'm afraid to breathe that stuff in too, and generally don't want them to breathe it in)
I live in nc, and it's always humid and generally hot, I could see DE being more of an issue in a dryer climate where it could blow about, but the ground is always fairly moist here and it sticks.

Also! I found a flea and tick spray I had for my dog, it has Permethirin 25% and the rest is water I guess.(sergeants silver flea and tick spray) Would that work? And how would I use it? I'd rather not spray my birds with it, as I've had this bottle for a while because it gave my dog a horrible infection.

I checked my birds today fairly early in the morning ( I would check at night but my coop is kinda low and I have to bend over in it. and I wouldn't want to get spurred in the face by a freaked out rooster.

The birds skin was nice and smooth, no eggs around the base of the feathers (but that's a lice problem) and it didn't look irritated at all, and I didn't see any bugs. I checked under the wings of a few and looked at all of their butts. Some of my roosters are problematic so I couldn't look under their wings.

Also I saw no mites in the coop at all today, I looked under the bricks and by the wood.

How would I use the /pemeitrin/ spray stuff? On the birds? where? How long does it work and what if the birds preen after I spray them? It made my dog very sick and if he licked his foot after scratching his neck it always made him puke.
I'd hate for my birds to get poisoned when the mites don't seem to be a huge problem. Still eating like normal, males have nice red combs, go right in coop at dusk or when I put food in. And so on.

A very excellent product for mites and lice that is biological in nature, not chemical, is Elector PSP. Warning, the price is off-putting, but the results and safety are worth it. No mask required. It's safe for poultry, no respiratory hazards. No egg withdrawal period. And the highly concentrated bottle will last years.

I'm sure it's a great product, but it's way too much money for me. I really think people should try the less expensive permethrin spray first and save that $150 for something else.

Okay, ill have to order some or buy some for when I need it. I haven't seen any mites since the DE/oil etc. But I also didn't have too many mites to begin with. (Also I wouldn't want to spray that on my dog (or chickens) while looking for it I found reviews on Amazon, not one good one and a few dead dogs)
