So, from the tone of things on here, I think a newby can join in?! I've been a bit put off on a couple threads because I'm not into showing (yet) and all but a few of my current flock come from a hatchery (or are the offspring of hatchery birds). I appreciate the time and energy people put into developing a great line of birds, but most of all I appreciate anyone who "gets" what my husband calls "chicken crazy." I got my first chicks last Spring, and I'm hopelessly obsessed now! Anyone who doesn't have this "affliction" just doesn't seem to understand, so I'm hoping BYC can help me make some connections with people who do. This thread made me laugh out loud, and that's always a good thing!

So I hope you don't mind my "butting in."

Thanks! I gotta say, my little ???? that came as a surprise in a hatchery order snuggles just as good as the Silkie I got from my neighbor (whose WAY into showing them). I would love to some day have some chickens that could contribute to making their breed better ... but meanwhile, I just love the indescribable calm that comes over me anytime I go into the coop. Oh ... and I think I may have had a nefarious visit from a Dragacorn ... when I went out to the coop this morning I found this ...

Looks like you may have a very rare dragacorn/eggicorn mix. See, it has feathers and no enough scales, but is HUGE!!!

All joking aside (for a moment, any way), there are some extremely knowledgeable folks here on BYC, and I have learned a ton from this forum. Most BYCers are very helpful, and will go out of their way to provide any and all information that backyard hobbyists like me could possibly need. If I had put as much time, money and effort into my birds as they have in theirs, I'm sure I'd be a stickler, too.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program . . .

On a unigon egg, the spots only show when you get the egg up to its proper incubation temperature and humidity. You'll learn . . .

you are right about the wisdom here but with tact young grasshoppers

You are correct. And some of the biggest names in the chicken world are the nicest most patient people who are happy to help you learn, not just point out what you don't know. We love them!

As I say, I truly do appreciate that kind of dedication, and I am finding this a great place to learn, too. I just get a bit overwhelmed at times by my complete NEWBY-ness! Who wooda thunk a chicken could have a pedigree longer than mine!
