Your bator looks almost identical to my Jamesway 2940.. the 2940 indicates how many chicken eggs it will hold... ( I have 3 of these)

see those slats on each side of the inside side walls?? each set of slats held a hatching tray. mine has 11 sets of these slat supports.

I cannot make out how many you have, but it looks like that many also..

the top compartment was originally the hatching compartment..

I did not get any trays whatsoever when I got my bator.. I have been looking for over two years for at least one incubator tray..

I did use the top for hatching chickens and it worked great..

once warmed up it will hold a good temp....

I looked all over for a name plate but could not find one. I thought the top part might of been used for hatching, but my husband said the guy he bought it from said no, it was for water pan. I moved the water pan down to the bottom, because humidity was way too low...seeing if that helps.

I dont know how many slots mine has, but I can check. I bet maybe it is the same as what you have. The way this one is set up now, it has a lever on the ouside, with a system of rods that support shelves made of metal (aluminum, maybe?) that the racks fit into...a rod goes vertically connecting all the rods the shelves sit on, so that when you turn the lever, it turns all the racks at once without opening the door. I can tell this rack/turning system seems homemade, but it works well.

It's 46 outside now, and the bator is in an unheated shed, and holding steady now at 98. We just turned it up a little more.

I have some EE eggs that didnt sell, so I'm gonna pop 'em in in the morning and see what happens!

OMGosh...that is gorgeous! Your hubby sure deserves something special for that!

I don't know what I'd do with 480 chicks, but it sure would be fun to be able to hatch out a lot of different breeds.

Grrr. The temperature is holding wonderfully, but I'm having serious humidity issues. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have 2 large surface area pans of water, one on top, one on bottom. These are the size of lids of 55 gallon drums. Even with both of them, humidity was only reading 20%. The guy we got it from said he made racks of hardware cloth shaped like an M and draped towels over them into the water pan to increase the humidity. I did that last night, and this morning came out and my full water pans were DRY and the humidity was 20%. My hygrometer shows that at some point, the humidity was up to 60.

If I can't get this regulated, I wont be able to use it. Any suggestions?
