Hmmmm......Where do I start. came home to see all of my freeranging girls hiding in every little place they can find in the greenhouse under trees in the bushes and even in the holes of cinderblocks I know when they go into hiding something has spooked them. I have 23 lavander chicks about 5 months old and about 18 other misc chickens did a head count and was minus one.....I know what that means i looked everywhere for her not a trace..... what can i do to help keep this from happening again??

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I put a fake owl on a post and, even though there are hawks and falcons around, I've not had any problems. I hope I didn't just jinx my chickie babies!

It is illeagal here in memphis to shoot the protected redtail hawks....unfortunate:( their coop is not movable it is a chicken house built just for them 8ft x 5 ft and 10 ft tall thanks for the reply.....lol i just hate one of my girls went missing:somad

see I have one of those and the hawk doesnt mind it I guess I need to start moving it around

SO SORRY about your missing chicken...it is so amazing the way they 'roost' inside your heart!

I wonder if one put wood or metal stakes close together around the pen if that would help keep predator birds from being able to swoop down and grab the chickens?

Well what is weird is that there is not alot of room for them to swoop in and out but I have seen them sitting on the tree right above their free range area I scared him off tho

If you have anything around that the chickens can hide under, even an old wagon, table etc., that might help.
