Debate: Is it cheaper to buy a shed and convert it, or build a coop?

We did all our coops out of left over fencing that Hurricane Ike threw down...we just added a few heavy boards but in all it didnt cost us much....we went around collecting fence pieces and we have a huge stack to do maybe 9 more large coops!!!! the main coop has a big fence door, like you would see on an actual fenced yard...reason being, is we can walk into the coop, stand in it...and even latch it closed when bad weather comes in....we latch it to the fence to keep it open all the time.

inside of coop, I went around the land and got branches, the girls love them, roost there every night

made an emergency quick coop for the bantams next to the main coop also

the main coop has ventilation across the very top where the girls roost at night....also on the sides, are large doors that open up to collect the eggs...we put chicken wire to open the doors during the day for more air in....then we used an old dog kennel we werent using. So we bought chicken wire for all, and a few boards for the frame...rest all used materials.

With a lot of people being out of work right now, especially in the construction trade, now might be a good time to throw some business their way. You could end up with the best of all worlds... a professionally built coop, a coop that you helped design, a fair wage, and you've helped someone in need of work. We did this with some landscaping needs and know many others who are hiring people for side jobs.
