I am getting 6 hens tomorrow to add to my existing flock. Mainly I am going toward egg-production with my flock, and mainly hatching Black Orpington-cross chicks. Four of the hens I'm getting are partridge chantecler----and the lady has a chantecler roster I could also buy if I want.
I would really LOVE to have the roo and hatch some chantecler chicks next spring----however, I would need another pen to keep him separate from my 2 black orpington roosters.
Just wondering if breeding chanteclers is a big deal or not.

Breeding chickens is worth the other pen. You'll have more chickens and that means more eggs. Its always fun to have some chicks runnin around.

Yes, well I have several chicks already----13-15 that just got moved to the big coop, 15 in the grow-out pen, 6 in the silkie pen, 13 in one half of a stock tank in the garage, and 3 with their momma in the other half. I also have 3 hens setting right now and about 21 eggs in the incubator! I would just like to have another pure-breed of chicks to offer for sale next year---right now I have silkie, Polish and then the orpington-cross. But I already am in need of 3 breeding pens for the Polish----I was going to sell all my Polish, but DH thinks they are cool and wants me to continue breeding them to sell. Guess he has his work cut out for him!

An update. I went to got my hens on Tues morning and am very happy with them. I ended up with 2 partridge chanteclers, 2 New Hamshire Reds, 2 EEs, and a bonus Wyandotte! The Wyandotte is more beautiful than I would have imagined, and may add some more of these next year. I will be getting the roo chantecler soon----they just didn't know I wanted him soon enough, and he was already out free-ranging by the time I called that morning. At least this gives me time to build another pen!
