Not a creature is stirring. Not even a pip do I see.
Tinks and the other paints aren't due until the 13th, but whatever is up with those 6 paints due two days ago. I must've been seeing things to see one moving yesterday. I have a horrible cold so maybe I was hallucinating? It actually startled me as I wasn't expecting it, but it obviously was just moving a dead chick around I suppose.
In a little while I'll pull them back out and try candling them again as I'd like to toss them if they're bad. I'll be having little dinosaurs crawling all over them soon and that could be gross!![]()
I'm in Wisconsin so get some brutal winters. They have a coop that stays 40F or so, so never freezes, yet, shovel them a path and out they come in 20F. This was there first winter. An older chicken you can see standing by the chicken door. They know better lol.Awwww! I've always wanted to own silkies but I'm not sure if they are that cold hardy due to their wispy feathers.
Good luck with your hatching!
All your chickens are so pretty![]()
Oh my gosh I'll have to reconsider getting some then!I'm in Wisconsin so get some brutal winters. I have another dozen ready to go, just say when! The 6 paints: I candled them again, and again, I saw one moving. It wasn't a hallucination.
The others were not, but looked similar to the one moving. I broke open two of those. Just a guess, they died around lockdown. They were almost fully formed but had days to go yet as there was a lot of blood. I do not know why as I also hatched some of mine with those.
I thought about assisting this live one, but it hasn't even pipped so I rather not. I wrapped him in a wet paper towel and sat him back in the incubator. This is two days overdue so does not make sense to me. One day late is all I've ever had.
I need my confidence back so I'm not buying anymore shipped eggs and just hatching my own for a while. Any side bets how long that lasts?
Once we see how Tinks did and the other 6 paints that were set with hers, that might change my mind. Those are in lockdown due 3/13.
I still have 8 out of 24 left in the NR360 of the buffs/cuckoos Due 3/24. Also, on the 9th, I set a bunch of my own for the Easter Hatchalong. (Not supposed to divulge how many until the cutoff date is past).
I keep posting the new sets at the bottom of the first post to keep track in case I lose anyone here, like me.![]()
Exactly why I blew quite a bit of money on shipping eggs here as I wanted buffs and paints, and have neither, but got cuckoos out of it. More are due to hatch so I won't give up. I really wish I could find someone around here but even the breeder I go doesn't have these.I have another dozen ready to go, just say when!all 11 of the chocolate hens eggs I set on the 2nd are developing, she seems to have some robust genes! I hope all my girls chicks hatch well for you
Shipped eggs are risky, I had 7 go in to lockdown of 16 eggs, and 6 hatch the last time. There just aren't any local breeders with the color I wanted.
Yes! Those cuckoos are so pretty! Hmm, could you put a chocolate rooster over them and get chocolate cuckoos? or would that only give you chocolate cuckoo males and solid chocolate females... where's Pipd!Exactly why I blew quite a bit of money on shipping eggs here as I wanted buffs and paints, and have neither, but got cuckoos out of it. Getting into cuckoos though is not something I had planned, so I'm not complaining as I have some very beautiful cuckoo chicks!
The only thing I know about breeding those, I copied someone's reply to someone else on BYC.Yes! Those cuckoos are so pretty! Hmm, could you put a chocolate rooster over them and get chocolate cuckoos? or would that only give you chocolate cuckoo males and solid chocolate females... where's Pipd!
