Photos of the new coop coming in.

Here's the spot it's going, which is behind the current garden shed/coop which is from the same Amish builder.

Here's where it's going. All cleared out and prepped mostly by hubby, but I helped too!

Almost there!

There are guy wires above he was concerned about but Michael had removed the lower one so it was fine.View attachment 3924273

And set! This is where the four pens will come out of.View attachment 3924270
It's painted to match the house. The other coop has been started to be painted to match, so they'll all look about the same color.

We'll rock the whole inside, (I'm the taper and mudder) he'll make a mezzanine for storage above, run power, build four coops, runs, etc. and thinks he'll take a month at most.

Wonderful!!

About 40 chicks/chickens were hauled to MN to my cousin Shelley's farm. We sold or gave away them all.

Saying goodbye to 30-some two-week-old silkies, polish, and salmon faverolles that were part of the Brinsea Testers Journey.

Of those 30-some, left behind were two silkie paints and a mystery color silkie chick.

Gone also are George (satin), Oscar (NN), 3 buff NN's, and 7 that were grown out to 3 mos old for my cousin. Still have 5 buffs, 2 white, and a black from the buff batch, and four from the older ones that were raised with my cousins' chicks; Peachy, CC, chocolate, and a black, hopefully cockerel.

Loaded heading to MN.

In other news, we got back last night and I checked for eggs in the breeding pen. I found Marsha, who's of course been broody, sitting on about 8. I ran back in the house, got the 6 on the counter and a pencil. I marked all 14, put more straw in the nest, and shut the door. I'm tired of her being worthlessly broody all the dang time, so now, she's sitting on 14 eggs. Yes, a bit much for a silkie, but there's another black hen (not Ember) in there that was crawling in to help.

So, saying she hatches chicks 9/15/2024, and keeps them warm a couple of months, I'm not sure what will happen then. I honestly wasn't even thinking about it. Just tired of her sitting in there so figured she might as well do something useful.

Edit: Eggs would be due 9/15, not 22nd. I'm tired and can't count lol.

The dads are Buddy the cuckoo and MB the B&W frizzle, and hopefully a couple of those eggs she laid, but not holding my breath. The others are a chocolate and two black hens.

Should be interesting. Should really be interesting though come December when she abandons them! 🫣
