I've not done it with any of the others, and they're pretty much all fertile. But I have heard of others that do that. I guess I could give that a try as it doesn't hurt a thing.

I would just test it out. I only think it’s the rare bird that needs it, but it could definitely make a difference in some cases!

The FIRST buff chick ever hatched yesterday!

I am still ecstatic as I've been trying since February. The buff rooster I had in there must've been too young, or just couldn't manage to do it right, and the other one I have is his sibling so figured the same thing with him. I waited to get the lemon cuckoo rooster from Bobbi Porto, Florida, and after he acclimated to Wisconsin, I put him (Lester) in with the three buff hens. Seeing a lot of infertiles with him too, but yesterday, history was made here! One made it! Should be many more in the future!

Did you try giving vent trims?? Thats the only thing I can think may help?

I did that with a few of my other hens who have extremely fluffy butts! I noticed when the Roo was breeding them I couldn’t see his vent or the ladies!

Did a trim and I found the old boy spent less time groping around. Looks rather rude but did the job (yes I did feel like a pervert peeking at their undercarriage ).

No, as I have two other buff roosters so don't really need another one. That one was already promised out as they bought the whole batch and I spit it out that one buff egg made it to lockdown. I would have kept it though. This batch hatching now has a couple in it, and they're all bought too. This lady is driving here this weekend from Iowa, 5.5 hours away! I better have some buffs for that one!

I think you're talking to @N F C more than me so you're more used to spelling it with a "y" but I don't mind as that's a pretty way to spell it. My mom called me Debs or Debsie, and Dad calls me that too or Deeeborah, but neither call/called me Debbie.

Yesterday, I took a kitchen scissors out to the breeding coop with me and looked them all over. The buff pen is the problem though, and found no issues, but they all got butt trims anyway.

Today I was looking up supplements for roosters to increase fertility. Rooster Booster granules was one of the products. They already get that, but I only put a fraction of what's recommended in their feed. Maybe I'll up that. I also read Vitamin E and Selenium can help older roosters. He's not even a year old.

I think mostly the trouble is, Carol Burnette, the frizzle buff, is the only chicken in there that's over a year old. Do you think my problems are probably just a matter of maturity?

The batch that hatched yesterday/this morning has three buffs, but a batch I set last week had four eggs in it and one was fertile. So it's going in spurts a little bit.

If anyone remembers I had gotten rid of my mottleds because they were satin. It appears I must've missed one, and it must be one of the black hens in the chocolate pen, as I'm getting chocolate and black mottleds now. I have no satins, and they aren't either, but I must've kept one that was silkie and just don't remember it? How else would I get those?
