We got a new addition as in chicken shed. We found it on Marketplace. A guy builds these for $350. Hubby shingled, painted, and put windows/screens in and a chicken door.

When we put these five in the pen, they got hot so went inside the shed to hang out before I could get the pellets laid. They've only been outside one other time as a couple are three weeks and the others four weeks old. We bring them in at night.

Better picture of them. The white one is a paint with black all over the other side. It had a spot on its head that made it look like it had three eyes. One buff, blue, and another mauve, and a splash frizzle.

These I'm keeping. There's about 8 more in the 4-Seasons pen we're keeping too. I need to get their newer pictures of them.

We're heading to Minnesota, 6 hours away in the morning to camp at our family reunion for four days, so they're coming with. We've taken parrots, chicks, and hens with chicks many times the past. Our neighbor looks after the other chickens, but these I wouldn't leave behind.

I need to decorate the front. Maybe flower pots on the ground at the front two corners. Not sure what for the door or above it. I could do window planters on the sides. We have some white wooden ones. Whatcha think?

That is a fantastic deal! Check and see if he has a handy brother down my way. 🤣

Omg!!! Your birds are beautiful ā¤ļø! Also, do you buy your eggs online or just locally? I would love to get some cuckoo silkies
These are from mine, but I do buy quite a few hatching eggs. It’s where I got most of my parents from. That buff has cuckoo in it. I was actually hoping it didn’t as I love the look but want to breed that out of a few too. I have a lemon cuckoo that’s the roo in there now. I have a pure cuckoo roo and hen as well, but no pure buff roo yet.

Where do you live? Shipping eggs have horrible hatch rates this year but I could ship you some cuckoo eggs depending where. Otherwise, one place I got them from is indigoegg.us She’s way more expensive than I am though. :)

Idea above the door: some sort of scrolly decoration, with some ventilation holes hidden in it. Paint it the same color as the trim. "Pots" use the half- barrel planters and put some sort of tree/shrub in them if you don't want to put it straight into the ground.
Great ideas! Thank you. 😊. The half barrels would look cool! Has to be pots though as we will move this every month or two.

Are silkies easier to show than satins?
Satin silkies aren't recognized by the APA. I don't know if 4H or state poultry competitions allow them though.

I don't breed any satins and only have a couple of very old pet-quality ones here.

Pre-fall check:

The youngest silkies I have are five fluffy butts in the new shed pen as we call it. We put a cozy coop heater in last night as temps fell to 50F and tonight 47F. They are average two months old.

Next up are three that are a couple of weeks older. They are in the Four Seasons Pen. I found them in their hutch today, as it was chilly and windy. They have a cozy coop in here, too, but not on until winter, as there's a lot of fluff between them all to keep these three warm.

The rest who are in the Four Seasons pen. They were all having an afternoon siesta.

That wraps up who are all out in growing pens. Almost every one of them I'm keeping.

Free ranging, we are down to three roosters, Buddie the cuckoo, Mocha the chocolate, and Cole the black. All others are in breeding pens, but that's for another day to update those.

Speaking of Mocha, how he usually looks. IMG_2296.JPEG

How he looks spending the summer outside free ranging. The Madonna look maybe? He's a blonde! I could get him mixed up with Piper, the mauve rooster who's in the breeding pens.

In other news, I found a pet-quality hen, Fern, who had been hiding out in the Old Folks Coop on a clutch of eggs. We'll see what happens there. It's a long story, but I figure she's got about a week left.
