On September 21, 2025, we should have a few dozen fuzzy butts running around. The plan is to have the inevitable broodies I'll have at the time raise them.

71 eggs set just before noon today. Yes, I have had a rule about keeping no chicks after July 1. The reason was so that any chicks I kept would be around 5 months old when the snow hits.

Now that we've got another coop and fancier growout pens, we've got more capabilities. Thus, I decided to hatch these out and keep them to grow out and sell in the spring when chicks are in their highest demand. If anyone happens to want chicks between then and spring, I'd sell. I may keep some though. 24 of these are from @2ndTink :wee She's got some beautiful silkies too, so we'll see what we get and go from there!

Remember when your parents told you to eat all of your vegetables so you'd grow big and strong?

Our ducks have been free-ranging and apparently have been eating too many vegetables and bugs, as they came up limping the other day.

They are angry today as we're not letting them out until they finish their plates. There's Poultry Cell in their water bucket, and nutritional yeast mixed in their Kalmbach's Flock Maker crumbles in both feeders. We float some frozen peas too so at least they get a little bit of their "vegetables." :)

Hope they're better asap!

I'm babysitting my son's dog, Xena, a mini-dachshund. She's been here before and thought young silkies were fuzzy toys. I won't let her around the smaller ones, but she's good around the older ones.

Today she wanted to come into the growout pen. One walked right up to her, and they touched noses. Then she came in and they scampered.

But they all were looking at her coming out of their hutch. I suppose they were wondering what kind of chicken that is. :gig
