Wonder if it is genetic, could be coincidence? Has she had any that were not malpositioned?Well, my staggered hatch is moving along - I've had 4 hatch, with one more internally pipped in the hatcher, then nothing until the 4 that are due 12.25 I'm a bit bummed by the number of malpositioned chicks I've had, especially since I know they are all coming from the same hen, my only cuckoo girl that I'm hoping to start a Cuckoo line from...
I'm wondering if it has something to do with a prominent vaulted head, which they all have in common. So I'm not super sure if any of hers have hatched that aren't vaulted - I have three dark babies that could potentially be hers, but I also have a paint girl that might be laying, and I don't have a paint roo so anything she has could split to black as well. I know the majority of the malpositioned chicks are from the cuckoo girl because she is the only naked-neck in my flock, and the majority of the DIS have been NN.Wonder if it is genetic, could be coincidence? Would love to see photos of the ones you hatched if you are so inclined. Nothing much cuter than a silkie chick!![]()
Welcome to the hatch along!I'm super late to this but I'm in lockdown with my eggs. Finally talked the hubby into a Nature Right 360 to incubate the eggs this time. Im hatching Bielefelders and hopefully a few Biele/55 Flower Hen crosses. Here is "Biele Bob" and his ladies can't wait to see the babies.

Makes sense with the vaulted head. Of all the chicks that I’ve hatched this time around only one had a very large vaulted head and I had to assist her. All the others popped out quite easily on their own.I'm wondering if it has something to do with a prominent vaulted head, which they all have in common. Here is a requested pic, from my 12.6 hatch. I tried to sneak a picture of them playing, but they saw me and just stared!View attachment 2456448
Great video! Most fun was seeing the other chick run around the incubator super speeded up!Woohooo! My last egg for a few days has hatched, and I'm 90% sure it's cuckoo!
Here, have a time-lapse!
