DECEMBER Hatch-A-Long!😊

Locked down 22 Aloha out of 33 eggs set. Now to see how well they hatch. 1 of those eggs, looks like it it is a week behind for some odd reason, but it is still alive as of half an hour ago.

Looks like my CCL Roo was on strike as the 8 CCL eggs I set were infertile. In his defense, he had 18 ladies in that pen. He has been moved to the new breeding pen and his 3 CL ladies will be joining him tomorrow.
Can't wait to see the Aloha babies!😊 Good luck with your hatch!

At risk of sounding dumb, what's an Aloha look like? Because I googled it, and all it gave me was recipes! 🤣 🤣 🤣

A new breed that is being worked on to be submitted to the APA.

I love Brinsea, expensive, but has been worth it. I also just bought an NR360 which is really popular here. Happy with it so far, but I HATE the lid and the way it fits. 😊
I use them mostly for hatchers.... one of mine the turner broke .... but I LOVE how easy it is to raise the humidity for lockdown!!!
That is "exactly" the machine I just ordered LOL... and for exactly the same reasons haha. I've already informed my other half that when that arrives I will be hatching EVERYTHING! haha.

But I do appreciate that not everyone can afford to buy those so wanted to illustrate that it IS possible to get reasonable hatches with budget gear. Just takes a little extra monitoring and knowing what to watch out for (i.e. temp & humidity fluctuations).
I always suggest to purchase the best equipment that they can afford. No not everyone can afford a 56 egg brinsea then again not everyone needs an incubator capable of handling 56 eggs at a time. I do have a Styrofoam bator that I only trust as a "hospital" for just hatched chicks before they are ready to move to the brooder.... every piece of equipment has a place.

I didn't quite understand the "chicken math" thing until now, as here I am setting even more eggs in the incubator. :p To be fair, I bought these after I thought some of the other eggs had been cooked!

The eggs I'm setting are Olandsk Dwarfs. I've read that they have a shorter incubation time of 19 days, like Seramas. If that's the case, I'll have another hatch on December 29th. These guys are apparently quite hard to hatch, also like seramas it seems.

I also have a batch of Dutch Bantam eggs coming some time next week, so I guess I'll be participating in a January hatch-a-long too lol

I love Olandsk Dwarf, they are so cute! Still pretty rare in the US. I believe they were almost extinct in Sweden as well if I remember correctly, until some breeders brought them back. What made you pick them? Few people have heard of them. 😊

Good morning!
Day 7 for the Christmas Day eggs. Candled and all 9 look great. Photo of an aqua colored Ameraucana egg:

Two in lockdown can see some shadowing in the bottom of the air cells. They will likely hatch sometime tomorrow.
No takers yet for the six I’ve already hatched. They are very sweet chicks, as chicks are. I guess straight run, mixed breed chicks are just not selling like they did in the spring. Also leading up to the holidays people have other priorities.
Maybe I’ll hang onto these and grow them out a bit and then try to sell them off heat.😊
