December Hatch-A-Long 2014

word from my dad is that they have only managed to get her to take ice chips the past few days so I'm thinking her time is coming pretty soon. She doesn't open her eyes and sleeps about 23 hours a day. I got to see her in July and I said good bye knowing it might very well be the last time I saw her but it's still hard when that time actually comes around. My grandpa passed away 31 years ago and she has said a few times over the past couple months that she's seen him. I will be sad for us that she's gone but happy for her that she will be back with grandpa!

In egg news though I will be weighing my eggs in the morning... my day 4 starts at 1120pm tonight but I don't want to stay up that late so I will do it in the morning as I turn them. I'm excited to find out if my humidity has been where it should be. My temp has been great! And my humidity has been pretty stable in the lower 40s. That's about where I had it last time.

How is everyone's chicks doing? Mine is almost 4 weeks old, I can't believe a month has already passed.

Really sorry to hear about your grandma, it's so tough to loose the ones we love. You will be in my prayers, grandma is going to be ok, she's going home to be with grandpa. May God bless you all with peace thru these difficult times.

Sorry about your Grandma. Always hard to say goodbye to someone in ill health.

My lil chicks are a month old on the 8th! They are getting so big!!! I actually adopted an injured silkie from my silkie lady and she gave me his 3 friends. They all hatched 12/8 also! So, they will go together in a couple weeks when their quarantine in up! Can't wait! I have a naked necker silkie in there too! Thing is hysterically awkward looking!

They do grow and change so fast. My friend whose bf got chicks recently told her its amazing how quickly they go from cute little chick to kinda ugly looking and I told her people call that the teenage years. She laughed and laughed. I'm not quite sure I like naked neckers... they look so silly to me. But I guess if I had one and I liked it's personality I wouldn't really care what it looked like.

Should we have put the chick we got from the feed store away from our hatched chick for a while? I didn't even think about that so maybe I'll lucky that they both made it having put them together right away.

In your case with one lil chick he needed the friend more than worrying about it being diseased. They say when you bring new chicks in to quarantine them to make sure they aren't sick and wipe out your flock.

Mine are in that in between stage too! Hysterical. But, I have 3 month old chicks who are just beautiful now!

Can't wait for the incubator to hatch!!!

My seven chicks will be four weeks old tomorrow. I'm sure all the olive eggers are cockerels.

Of the other chicks, I think one is a pullet. How do you get one chick out of 7 that is a keeper!?!!? Very frustrating to say the least. They are all very healthy and active. Six of them have figured out how to fly over the stall wall already. When I came home from work yesterday six were out and only one was left in their brooder coop where they were supposed to be. Silly kids.

Probably the silkie-----if they are older. Look at your silkie's closely----the males are usually bigger and their wattles are bigger. It is hard when they are chicks for sure but after 3 months they are usually easy to tell. My Wife says she can tell at one day---she does pick them up at one day and say this is a male/female----I have not separated them to see if She is right---Might try that--LOL.
