December Hatch-A-Long 2014

It is very likely to make them late! That late in development, I don't think you should worry about deformities. Hopefully everyone is still looking good come lockdown candle, they werent too far off so fingers crossed they were resistant and well along enough to just take some extra time to do the job instead of quitting. I hope they pull through!

Sorry you lost power! We were somehow spared from the wind yesterday, which was nice since we were without power for three days straight in November. Your eggs still have hope. Lots of people have hatched eggs that got cold or after a long power outage. I had an egg that got kicked out of the nest one night. It was completely cold when I found it in the morning. I stuck it back under the broody and it hatched just fine in day 21. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the reassurances.

We lost power last night (PNW storm with wind gusts up to 80) and had trees knocked down all over. We didn't get power back until 18 hours later. Incubator was down to 57 all I could do is wrap the incubator in towels and hope it didn't drop any further. Had 11 eggs with moving chicks before (day 13). As soon as we had power again and the incubator started to warm (got to 99) I candled the eggs and thought for sure every single one was dead, no movement at all! I candled again when it was at 101 (I have a still air) and the babies, all of them, are moving.

I haven't had good hatch rates before but I'm hoping this is a sign that this hatch will be different!!!

Will the prolonged cold make them hatch later (Day 21 is the 19th) or cause them to have deformities?
I hate your power went out but hope everything works out and you have a good hatch. If you are going to hatch eggs, you might want to look into getting another power source so if it happens again---you will be ready.

Saying my prayers for your hatch! I hope it works out okay...

Shout-out to my broody hen! I could hear peeping when I got home from work. It took all my willpower to leave the hen alone and not take a peak. When I went to lock up for the night this little bugger came out to say hello. It hatched from one of my Speckled Sussex eggs.

There are at least 2 other chicks under the momma - one olive and one more sussex I think. Waiting for the others to hatch now.

5 hours later and nothing from my pipped chick! I think it's a goner

no other pips yet. Gonna be heading to the nutcracker in a bit so hopefully I can get my mind off of them for a bit.
It will be ok :( sometimes things just like that happen! I bet you will have lots of little peepers later tonight

So I had a marans hatch and I have another sizzle pipped. Im convinced the little white one with black spots is a paint lol which I am kind of excited about. I pulled out my bloody silkie egg earlier to expand the pip hole since it has been over 24 hours and I was right it had pipped below the air cell which was why there was blood. It did bleed a little when i expanded it but I used a wet Qtip and it stopped the blood well then put it back in the bator. That was about 5 hours ago and its still not making progress on its own so I don't know if I should try again or leave it till morning

aw cute little chick!

I have 9 Blue Partridge Brahma eggs & 3 Cream Legbar eggs in the 'bator now..should hatch Dec 20th..I will also have 17 Blue Brahma eggs & 3 more Cream Legbar eggs I'm putting in the 'bator tomorrow...I know they won't be a "December" hatch but hope it's ok to post them here....:)

Enjoyed my time out at the nutctacker, only thought about the eggs/chicks a few times. Hubby texted to say #8 is a pipper. Came home to find it already starting to zip... 3 hours since pip. #12 is not doing anything, I'm pretty sure we lost it :/ I really don't think I'll sleep much tonight! Aside from all the chirping that is sure to keep me up I just want to see one hatch!

I fe asleep and woke up. I now have an official pip and one zip :jumpy :jumpy
yay! I think I'll be up for a while. This chick really looks like it wants out, doesn't seem to be giving up. There's a piece of shell that is broke off but won't fall down for me to get a better look inside the egg. It's taking all the will power I have not to open the bator and pull it off.
