HI, I'm new here. I need some help with first aid. We have a three year old Cochin hen. She had a dirty bottom so we went to clean her and found open wounds with maggotts in them. Three open wounds. We have pretty much cleaned out the maggotts fom what we can see. We have isolated her in the house to keep away flies. We are rinsing the wounds with chlorhex once a day and giving her 1cc of Tylan 50 by shot. Last night we went to work on her and the wounds are looking scabby, is this good? Also it looks as though she has another abscess that has very light greenish fluid in it. Should we lance it or leave it. Any suggestions are helpful. I read we should pack it and wrap it but its all around her vent so it makes that close to impssible. Should we be putting neosporin on it? I dont have a pic of the greenish blister but here is a pic of the wounds from two days ago.

Sounds like you already know what to do and are doing a fine job so far and just keep all the areas clean now so she can heal and the last one near the vent you can lance it and relieve some of the pain or just keep it clean and let it heal naturally ..........

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your girl hope she gets better. You might want to post in the Emergencies forum about her https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures Here is a thread from last year on the same thing / fly strike https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...autionary-tale-with-graphic-photo-progression Would look into getting screw worm spray or something similar to keep flies off, and consider putting her on antibiotics. If she has another abscess would consider lancing it also.
