Amen! I think you would definitely keep them out or definitely Make things way too difficult for some crazy coons to find your smart chicks in your setup. Itās really a neat one and I like it. Believe it will really work well and you will like this method that you have now chosen to go with. I am really glad itās what we went within ours and I rarely have to add anything in our run even with the remnants of hurricanes and tropical depressions etc.,- flooding rains that have poured through our area this season. I thought we might have a mess but nope. Our run and coop has a roof with a slope and slant with overhang of about a foot foot and a half on each side so it takes a good amount of wind to blow it in to soak the ground in the run. It has soaked parts but not all and Iām proud of that knowing that this year has been a test of about the worst of the worst for us weather wise between rain and heat. My girls first year of life for this flock has been a real test. I doubt winter will be bad too much here in MS that they canāt take. They are Orpingtons, Swedish Flower Hens, and Cream Legbars So their coop is good to go being deep litter. They are cuddlers too. Give them a rainy day and a good nights supper snack prior and they will stay quiet until 11:00 a.m. if I have an 7:30 dr or dentist appointment! lol!āoff subject but they are comfy as pigs in mud in deep litter! Yāall take care and good luck with it!Okay, no worries, we seem to have just gotten off subject slightly. I think you meant well. What I was looking for was advice on using DL or DB method. Just looking for what those with experience would say would work best with my setup.
Iām pretty happy with my āFort Knoxā coop. And since I live on John Knox Rd, that seems a suitable name for my Chicken fortress.if I put a sign on the coop that says āFort Knoxā, I wonder if it will discourage the raccoons.

Me too, amen sister!!If I may- chickens go in their coop to purch, sleep, lay eggs, that is if you have your nesting boxes in the coop and most of all a safe place to go. This makes their coop the main place to go. First of all chickens don't care and they don't have a care, where they poop. So to jump ahead of all of the other stuff related to this subject, They poop in their coop and their liter system is takes the brunt of it. I don't care what system you use, they are going to poop in it and scratch in it. They will peck and peck in it. You are not going to change that. That is like asking a duck not to get into water. So what system do you choose. Several systems work, but they do different things. Some control the smell but you have to change it on a regular basis. Some control the moisture but you have to change it every other day or even daily. Some do a combination but you are still on a regular maintenance schedule. A Lot of it is based on cost. All of them work but with different results. For me, I want less maintenance and overall less cost. This is my choice and I believe that the Hemp product is the best product for the results and dollar spent. A lot of you will defend basic products because you have easy and affordable access but not everyone has that option. Imagine this, what if you never had to change your poop coop but once a year? What if you never had the bad smell that came with chicken poop, this is a big one? You can order it online. NO I don't make a dime on this product from any company. I just believe in the product, and what it says it can do and what it actually does do. Just my thought and experience. You need to find your comfort zone. For me, it is the Hemp system that does it for me.
