So we have a sorta open concept chicken run and coop. I put a pick with the thread dont mind the emptiness or the rake as i am loosening the litter a bit and moving things around cuz when i do seems to make them entertained till the next time.

Now ive been throwing the tarp over the whole thing around the time they go in the coop and then untarping in the morning. The coop as its own tarp over that that never comes off as a weather protector and the fact that we havent gotten it painted or even stained yet since when we did all this was still kind of cold. And the way our wind blows where the set up sits they are never hit with a strong wind inside the sorta open concept coop, it either its the outside wall or back wall , and we sat it this way so that the run got good air flow but the coop wouldnt get any strong winds.

But my question since doing the deep litter is it a good idea to keep covering it like i do or could we get by with it not getting covered at all or half so they have some shade? Then just covering if it storms really bad so the litter doesnt get extremely wet?

Right now the way im doing it is how we plan on during the winter but with it becoming some time didnt know if i could do it a bit different.

TIA

A side question lol we have buff orps from rural king 6 pullets well i think we are the lucky 10% to get a rooster or at least i think so lol. Ud think he was a hen as the only time ive heard a remote crow like sound when romeo (lol 8yr old named him) wants the coop uncovered and i havent done it yet as soon as i walk over there to do it he stops.. hes a pick first is of the whole flock and our 2yr old son who they come to cuz he feeds them thru the fencing grass etc. The second is what i think is our rooster he grew slow tail feathers are shorter and point more upright and legs are thicker, see if u think its prob a rooster too.

(Dont mind the chicken tractor lol its something i threw together quick in my own from scraps so the chickens arent always in the run till we can build a better one or make that one stronger with a partial roof for shade)

Ill attach better pics of our setup once the sun isnt pointing towards me lol

And those that have buff orps too do urs ever make chicken sounds? Ours do more of robin or blue jay sounds unless you grab them to pick them up then they sound chicken for a few secs or till u pet them lol
