Deep litter in small spaces?

Twisted Feathers:

And with that small of a coop (and I'm assuming between 3-6 chickens?) the deep litter has been working well enough? Or do you have to turn it for them because they aren't inside enough to make it effective? Poop board or not?

It is totally dependent on stocking density and when they're let out in the morning.
An 8X6 coop with 10 hens outside most of the day gets cleaned completely about 3 times a day here.

I can't believe I typed that. Sorry.
I meant to say cleaned completely 3 times a year.

So sorry for the misinformation.

I have 7 chooks, 6 pullets and a rooster, although they are bantams, not big birds. It works well, i don't have a poop board, although there is a gutter along one wall under on of the perches, which helps catch some of the poop. I occasionally turn the bedding under the main perch as it gets poo heavy,as all 6 pullets sleep there together, and i'm iffy about putting the wheat there, but over all, it works well. They are getting better at turning it, have only had them 3 months, and they aren't quite at POL yet, though they should be getting close now. I stick my head in the coop most days, and there is usually a new hole or two where they have been busily scratching.
