Deep litter method question (Newbie obviously.)

I think it's time to add more shavings to my coop.

My question is this...

Is it ok to ad lime on top of the old stuff before adding new? Also would it be ok to sprinkle some lime out in the run?

I would never use lime around my girls inside or outside. I would use Sevin or some other type to control mites. If used incorrectly, Lime could kill your birds. Just my 2 cents...
