oh, one more thing, I'm also looking for banded birds.

what does that mean?

I'm looking for birds with a plastic/metal seamless band on one leg. The National pigeon association requires them for showing. It's kinda like a tatoo for a rabbit in a show.

is this the npip test band?
some of these pigeons were born at his place, so no band, not sure about the original pair, can you find out more info on that?

I'll be sending you a pic of some of my birds and their bands, provided i can find your e-mail. LOL! It's a band that the pigeon and dove clubs put out, and it's up to the breeder to place then on their birds. They come in multiple sizes, and i personally go the next size up from recomended, just to be safe. I'll be sending the message shortly.

so then, why wouldnt you just put the bands on yourself> i dont get it? its a pigeon thing i guess, lol is it that you need to be a member of this pigeon club to get the bands? or is it a way for a breeder to keep track of their birds, or is it to follow the family tree so to speak? i dont get it, hmmm need to research, if i was into pigeons i guess i would know this.
i will look at the parents and see if there is a band, does it say something on it, or numbers or something? lol too many questions?? sorry

Sorry wendy, i'll try to be clearer(end of the shift at work LOL)
The bands are solid, they don't crimp on. It's solid like a wedding band, and slides over the bird's foot when they are young. Then when the bird is old enough, the foot fuses together, and the band cannot slip off. Typically bands are either from clubs, or generic,. A club band will have the club initials, followed by the year, then a alphabetical code, then a serial number. For example, "NPA ED 09 658." or "AU JK 07 1123." I am a member of the national pigeon association, and band my young birds with NPA bands, but i know some people who put "generic(solid colored solid bands on their birds. Here's a link that may help. it's meant for dove owners, but the principals apply to pigeons aswell. http://www.diamonddove.com/Misc.Text/Writings/BandingYourBirds.html

Hope
this helps, if not, smack me the next time you see me.
