I don't know about rhubarb, but tomato and potato plants are toxic.

Rhubarb leaves are poisonous. So are unripe potatoes.

I am so sorry.

Well, I have some Partridge cockerels I will sell ya! Partridge Bantam Cochin, Partridge Standard Cochin, Partridge Wyandotte... I sound like Bubba on Forrest Gump!

Sorry you lost him. I didn't know that tomato plants were poisonous. Good thing I fenced off the garden! Actually, the stupid chickens were out stripping my tomato plants after I put them in. No one died from it though that I know of. I lost a couple of hens but I think they were sick before the plants got put out. That is good to know that you don't let them eat the nightshades. I knew there was some reason not to give potato peels to the birds, but I couldn't remember.

Good luck find another boy. I do so love the Partridge varieties.

I agree, I don't think that tomatoes are toxic.

It isn't the tomatoes (boy do they love eating them!) themselves, but the plant. My understanding is that tomato plants are kind of like rhubarb--"fruit" is okay, leaves (or the "plant) is not so good. And yes, it is of the nightshade family.

I can't remember where I heard about the tomato plants, so I'm sorry if I am totally off. I think I'll go do some searching now...

I went and did some quick searching. Evidently, the plants are toxic, but don't seem to affect chickens as much as other animals. I don't know if that's what my boy ate, but to be sure (and save some 'maters for us later), I am going to keep our lovelies in their run except for evening forage jaunts in the garden when I can monitor.
