Ah.... broody hens. She's been my first and only one (so far) We tried everything. (Except the dunking in cold water) I did ask my adult son to take her in the pool with him and dunk her bottom and the only thing he said was "Mom, are you kidding me?" So, no dunking. We bought eggs, like I said, but she pecked them all. I was going to sacrifice a live baby that I had just hatched but was afraid it truly would have been a sacrifice. For the last month I have been just picking her up and taking her out with her sisters to the garden to dust herself or taken her to the front yard. She started staying out longer and longer and about a week ago she roosted with her sisters and they were NOT happy. They cackled for an hour until she went back to the nest. The next night she was roosting. I also thought she would cook on the nest. For a while she looked like she was having the jerks. Her body would just twitch. Not sure why. She's ok now. Broody hens. Who knew? I hope next year she'll set without pecking the eggs. Keep us posted.
