Deformed Baby Chick graphic pics

Yes both eyes were on the same side, it was like the skull was never formed, and part of the scalp to keep the brain in.
and the beak was really crooked, but the top beak was very small compared to the bottom beak.
the body was all normal,

breeding chinchillas i have seen some wired stuff, but nothing like this.

what concerns me is that another one that died a day or to before pepping date, had crooked beak to. so will see how this next set of eggs go, i got them yesterday, and got them in the incubator today.

Oh my god! THAT is a good reason why I will never help a chick out of it's shell if it hasnt pipped or isnt dried in. that.... That.... That thing's just WRONG D:

I'm sorry you had to go through that. that must have been awful!
:C I'm glad it didn't live too long, that would've been torture!

There goes my peaceful sleep for the next week....

This can happen to most all avain species. I breed button quail and this happens not often but sometimes. One time I tried to help some out, but it just ended up beaking my heart. So, if they can't hatch on thier own it's better off if they don't because almost all the time they have deformities. Deformations are most of the time due to genetic. I hope this makes you feel better. Next, time I would leave it alone and after a coulp of days find a nice place to bury the eggs that don't make it.

Things like this should make us thankful for hatches that do go right.

It happens, it's development gone wrong. The cross beak looks like a result of the anomaly and not the root of the defect. I can only imagine your shock, sorry you had to experience this. Of all the billions of creatures that are successfully created, the occasional one that isn't mapped out in correct sequence is usually a whopper shocker like yours was.

These eggs were not from any of my chicken, i had order them, it was Blue Plymouth Rock, the chick was still alive, but once i opened the egg with minute it died, thank goodness, i would have hated if it lived for hours or day.

the lady i got them from is very nice, and i gave this info, and she is taking care of eggs she sent me, and replaceing them with new eggs.

I wasnt even ask her to replace them, i just wanted to give her a heads up, and she offered to send me a new dz, to try again.

Very interesting. I do wonder - did the head/brain defect cause the beak defect or if they are two individual things. I know there is no answer, just pondering.

Thanks again for posting.
