Deformed chick

Just a thought, but since chicks are sort of rubbery for the first day or two, is there any way to straighten that little beak up a wee bit? Like you can for curled feet etc.... I wouldn't know how, but there might be a way?

I've had several differently abled chooks and dooks (I'm soft hearted, I know!) they do take more care and attention, but most have gone on to live happy lives. I had a little duck called Beaky who had a twisted beak that had the top part sort of folded back on its self, she compensated for it by learning to 'sideways shovel' her food, and was one of the best layers for more than 6 years :)

I'm always inclined to give little oddbods a chance, you'll soon know if it's going to have a decent quality of life or not. If it's drinking and eating etc. then that's all good signs!

Well, I felt unable to give this chick the attention it would need right now. So my neighbor was willing to take it on. She feeds it with a medicine dropper for now. I guess we'll see how it goes. If the chick only had one eye, or a missing leg, or a problem wing, I probably would have kept it. But I don't have the time required to be here ever 2 to 3 hours to keep feeding it right now. My nieghbor does, and she has had chickens longer then I have. So its got a chance. I can deal with a lot of things, but right now life is to hectic for me to be feeding ever couple hours. If it hadn't had the beak problem, I probably would have kept it. I didn't know there was a name for the condition of the beak... cross beak... so I didn't know to look it up. Now I do. Thank you! I have seen a lot of animals with problems, blind, 3 legs etc... but this was totally something I wasn't prepared for. This chick does try to eat on its own. However, we can't tell if its actually getting food or not. It picks at food, like any other chick would. I guess time will tell. and thank you all so much for your imput! This forum has been a huge help to me!
