DEFORMED EGG

sorry i have no pic. this morning a pullet layed an egg on the floor in front of me. on 2 sides there was no shell. just a thin membrane. on the point end a hollow tube of shell was attached. calcium is in feed and oyster shell free choice. do i have a bad bird?

It is most likely a hiccup in the egg factory.

We are so accustomed to perfect eggs in the grocery store we don't take time to stop and realize there are a lot of glitches that can happen in the making of an egg.

I've had some weird looking eggs but nothing like that. I think as long as its all covered with shell its fine to eat. I'm sure she was just having a bad day.

Nah, your girl is fine. Sometimes girls get a bit stressed and will "rush" the egg-making process. MissPrissy's right...just a hiccup.

We had a hen lay an egg like that once. It was all soft shelled and had like you described a tube of shell that came out attatched to the end. She has layed normally ever since.
