Delaware "baby watch" - Isaac babies update!!

Question--If they haven't pipped is it still ok to candle them? I was under the impression that would cause a loss of moisture and cause them to possibly get stuck in a tough membrane.

Isn't that why we go on Lockdown?

Not being critical, just need to know.

If an egg hasn't pipped and it's getting late, maybe going into the second half of Day 22, I do candle to see if they are still viable. Keeps me from waiting on something that will never hatch.
I don't actually go on "lockdown", implying the bator is never opened. My last three days is more like "IBW", Intense Bator Watch. I do pull out chicks who are fluffed out before 24 hours is up, so my bator does get opened during that time. How you do it is really a personal decision. I don't candle on Day 21, unless maybe I have a lone egg left in there and it has not pipped.

Just got back tonight. Had a GREAT trip. Landon killed 2 deer, a nice 8 point and a doe. Colby killed a BIG doe and a wild hog. I have pictures, but I am not sure if I am "allowed" to post pix of "dead critters" here and I don't want to get in trouble!

Hathch wound up the same....the 3 that had not hatched still never did anything. I had 1 more of Lil Bits hatch yesterday from the batch I had going in that goofy cabinet 'bator.

I have 12 silkies AND 3 more Lil Bit babies due next Monday....all going strong. I AM gonna have a good flock of Del's before its all said and done!! Will definitely need some help sorting for "culls" as they get bigger!

Have a great evening (off to Fla again tomorrow)

Congrats on your successful hunt! There have been folks who post pics of their bagged deer here, so as long as you put the appropriate warning on it, I see no reason why not. Well, you know where to get more eggs now, if you need them after you sort out what you have already (or anytime, really).
