Delaware Breeders

I plan to start breeding the Delawares soon and would like to know do the Delaware hens breed true to the American Standard of Perfection.

A Delaware bred to a Delaware will produce a Delaware, if that's what you mean. Is it? As far as the Standard of Perfection, you will have some that come closer to that than others; it helps to start with great stock then cull for proper traits.

The Standard is what breeders strive to attain with their birds.

I'll second what Cyn said. They hatch pure Delaware but like any breed you have to cull to the standard.

Will any of the Delaware Breeders please post pictures of there hens that come nearest to the Standard.

Mine are all pullets at this time. Maybe seriousbill will post one of her lovely hens for us.

I have not yet seen a Delaware hen with the indications of irregular black and white barring in the tail coverts. If there is any hens of the Delaware breed out there with this coloring in there tail coverts please post pictures of them.

I would like to see pictures of the Delaware breed that was taken in the 50' to see what they looked like when they were admitted into the Standard. If the Delaware hens did have the irregular black and white barring in the tail coverts and does not have it now I am to the conclusion that the barring in the hen tail coverts was lost when the original Delaware breed was lost. I hope I am wrong as I am still going to breed the Delawares and breed them as close to the Standard as possible.
