Delaware chicks. Different features, different sex?

Next Friday/Saturday they should be a week old. I will post pics so we can both see the difference one week can make! Its so amazing to see them grow from straight out of their Eggs as tiny little fuzzy butts to chicks with wings in less then a couple of weeks! LOL

Delaware males and females will develop quite different markings by four weeks old or so. And they boys start getting combs that are distinct by then. The girls have 'tail black' and the boys have barring on the tail like a BR, but that emerges slowly over time. It will be apparent in about three or four weeks who is who.

Two of my 3 and 1/2 week old Delaware chicks are mostly white, but have some black on their tails.


The other two chicks have alot of black interspearsed among their white over all of their body except for their heads, though it is not in a clear bar pattern.


The two that have black only on their tails are the two heaviest birds (9 ounces, as opposed to the two that have more black on them, who are 8 ounces). And the two that have black only on their tail have larger combs than one of the birds that has more black on her/his body.

Tail black is on the females, black feathers edged in white. Male Delawares have barred tails, not tail black.
