Delaware Gang @ 5 Weeks Old (newest Pics #96/ 9 Wks Old)

And if they are a work in progress, I know we'll all be blown away by the final result of all your breedings.

Thought I'd post a pic of my frontrunner cockerel since the group is now over six weeks old. Naturally, it will take a few weeks longer to be sure he's the one I'll keep and there are three others I've earmarked (well, watercolor mark on the head, anyway, LOL) to watch and monitor as they develop. Here is the boy I've started calling my Rockstar.

Went to the feedstore yesterday and they had lots of hatchery Delawares, including one older cockerel that very obviously has Columbian Rock blood. Pitiful bunch they were after raising the ones I'm fortunate enough to have.

What were the tell tale signs of the Columbian Rock blood?

The signs are usually very heavy black neck lacing on the pullets, no barring (or practically none) in the tails of the males, very dark slatey gray underfluff (such as you might associate with a Light Brahma). I assume that's what Cyn's referring to?

Raven, I was glad you asked the question about the hatchery bird as I too have hatchery birds and had a similar concern. Mine don't seem to aggressive now but they seem sort of nervous. I am glad to hear there is still hope for hatchery bird, if mine do turn aggressive it will help justify an incubator.

speckledhen, Thanks for your insight. I am looking forward to see your final choice(s).

Hi Raven & Speckledhen
I have order 25 Delaware chicks from Meyer Hatchery and if you dont care for me asking what hatchery are yours from.

I have been reading this thread and enjoying the pictures. What a difference in these birds compared with hatchery Dels that I have seen.
This is a breed I might like to try some day, and I know I don't want to buy them from a hatchery. That really is sad they do not try for more correct type and good temperments.
These are great looking birds! It was nice to see some quality birds of this breed.
