So they're officially day olds now

...actually, 1 of them is 1 1/2 days old, but who's counting? They're eating great, like little piggies. Had no problem whatsoever with learning the food and water thing.

Here they are after a long day of being played with, eating, drinking, being played with some more...just too much for the little cuties!

They look like happy, healthy chicks! Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love your Delawares.... we have one and she is a character and a half!

We love them so much already...since the moment they hatched. They're definitely special to us, and always will be. And I'm surprised how quiet they are right now. They don't make a lot of noise.

But that'll change next week (hopefully

) when some new sizzles and cochins hatch and go in the brooder with them. These little guys remind me of the Peeps marshmallow goodies you get at Easter...so yummilicious!

Frances, our Delaware hen, is our alpha hen. She is part of our flock that are over 2 years old. If any of the other birds are eating something that looks interesting, she chases them away. And if someone happens to be running in the farm yard with a nice juicy bug in their beaks, she is the first to start the chase! She can be quite forceful at times, especially if someone is in her favorite nest box.

Frances was quiet as a chick too. But she has always been very personable and became a chatty girl. She really hates to be petted and examined; she only tolerates it. The minute she is let back down she starts loudly complaining to all about how she puts up with her humans!

She has become the darling of our 12 week old Cochin and 12 week old Marans cockerels' attentions! She is twice their size, so she puts up with no nonsense!
