Your Delawares are GORGEOUS! Umm...how are they for meat?

We want to add some layers of colorful eggs to our laying flock next year and would like to keep a flock for meat that are not...Frankensteiny like Cornish Xs.

Thank you! I've only processed one of the roosters. He was a big boy, but not the size of Isaac. If he had been fed with an eye toward becoming dinner, he'd have been quite satisfactory. The problem is breeding a line of these that are deep bodied like the standard calls for; so often, hatchery Delawares woudn't make good meat birds.
I chose this rooster for several reasons, one of them being his broad frame. Isaac is very large, but he had a brother who was actually larger than him at an earlier age. I did not keep him because of various reasons, but Ike did catch up to him before I gave him away. He would have been a good foundation for a meat bird flock.

Cyn, I have a Dellie pullet that looks just like the one in the 2nd to last pic just to the right of Isaac's beak. Like yours, she's a beauty.... at 21 weeks, I'm hoping for an egg!

WOW, I can't believe Isaac is only 30 weeks. He's a young gun and I thought he was an old man

He sure does stand tall and proud and he looks like he's keeping a close eye on the girls. He really is an awesome sight to behold.
