Delawares from kathyinmo

Pics
Could you all post the pics of those with Columbian type markings vs. the Del SOP so that folks can learn and understand what to look for. I'm curious as to how much is "too much" when speaking of these color and marking differences. I'm not too up on these breeding rules.
I am leaving for the weekend but will get some pics posted Sunday PM or Monday.

Very pretty birds! That's a shame about the Del...they tend to be little greedy guts about food, that's for sure. Who would think one would climb up there and get stuck?

I had one of this bunch of birds to fall down a crack between hay bales and some lattice work when they were trying to get up on the hay bales where I feed the cat. Got stuck upside down there for who knows how long..none the worse for wear but it never did that again, I bet ya!

Yes, that is how this one was, upside down. The PVC walls have no give of course so she was kind of like in a straight jacket and may have died from the stress or possibly even suffocated with her head down in the bottom of the feeder. These feeds were really made for adult chickens and I had a concrete block in front of it so the chicks could reach the food....I can see how she would be trying to reach the bottom when the feeder was near empty and slipped right on in. Kind of like they put those warnings on buckets that a child can fall in and drown.

Hello to you all. Just stopping in and going to try to catch up here.

I am not so good at answering your questions, because this is all new to me too! I have only a dozen of these chicks myself. As with you all, I also have some overly marked ones. I am keeping them, because I kept one rooster who is just the opposite. He is very light. I was thinking they may produce something acceptable. However, I am not sure of that!

We can all learn from each other here. This is one reason I was reluctant to release these birds. They are not a "done deal," yet. I am sure there is still alot of work to do with them.

Maybe I can get some pictures of my chicks tomorrow. I will try. (It is suppose to rain though).

Kathy!!! So good to "see" you!

Bee,
Your signature line - - - One of my favorite links! I bought it on disk too.
Did you see there are 2 more series by them now?

Well, he is slowly adding parts of the 3rd series right now.

I recently had a predator problem. My husband did see a coyote one day. I lost at least 20. My chickens are now (for over a week now) locked up in their pens-runs. I hate that. I love when they are all out ranging. All the ones I lost were from my layers coop, where my Delaware layers (F3s) are. Locked up, I have not lost any more.

Yes! I have watched all his series and am currently watching the Restless Church one and couldn't agree more. My family are going to try home fellowship/church for a bit and see what comes out of it. I've learned quite a bit from that young man's series...truly a godly ministry he is performing.

So, so good to have you back and being able to source your wisdom.

The one on left is more of a Columbian Pattern- the one on right is what I call Del ticking pattern . I,m sure there are more technical names but thats what I call it. That
is not a extreme Columbian pattern but I thought the side by side was better for comparison.

Now off topic I need opinion
