Hello, I don't know if people post their coop builds on here or not. It's common on the aquarium forums I'm on to do build threads, so I figured I would do one here. I posted a little bit on my intro post to the forums, but I'll make this my official thread to the start of my chicken journey. I'm new to chickens and have wanted to build a coop for years, and finally have the space and family support to do so. I started building my coop/run a few weeks ago. I have my six chicks on order for delivery sometime in October. Coop will be about 4x9 with three nesting boxes; the run is 12x9. I have the run almost complete and will start framing the coop next week. Hoping to have this all finished by the end of August. Here are some pictures of the progress so far.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Nice coop, your chicks will love it! ❤️ Keep us posted when you get your chicks, we would love to follow along on your journey! 🐤🐥🐤

Looking good so far!

If you are planning on free ranging I recommend getting an automatic coop door. It's great when you forget to close the run door at night. I forgot to close the run door two nights in a row and lost my entire flock due to a racoon in the middle of the night so I couldn't recommend it enough.

I did get an automatic door for the coop. I'm going to wire it into the solar system my shed runs on. We plan to let them out of the run on occasion, but mostly when we're hanging out in the backyard for the day. Where we live in town raccoons are just about the only predators we have to worry about. But I'm good at taking care of those problems. Haha. I did bury the corrugated 12" into the ground so digging under won't be an issue.
