Delawares

I have only had one Delaware and she is my leader of the pack. She was the first to jump out of the corral when she was a chick and has been in charge ever since. I got my chicks from California and they were very healthy and all sweet. My Delaware is the one who will fly up and sit on me as well as my salmon favorelle. The Delaware is a great egg layer, foreager and even does well when she has to be kept in the run. As far as meanness, I haven't seen it from mine. If you want a docile bird, you might want to look at the salmon favorelle or the orpingtons. My most gentle bird, although difficult to find, was my coronation Sussex. She was beautiful and had similar markings to the Delaware, but although probably the top of the pecking order, my Delaware is still sweet and likes to let me pet her and comes right up to me, so I don't think you should have a problem.

I have one Delaware, about 12 weeks, She looks big size wise but she's really skinny. I don't think worms, none of her clutch mates are skinny.

Delawares are large birds, do the develop like Jersey Giants, skeletal cage then they fill out?

I've had Delaware's for (4) years and never experienced any aggression. I hold them quite a bit and do spend time in the pen with them. I have had them from when they hatched. Never hear them make any sounds much, not like the Polish I have that is always making little noises.

I have 4 of them 3 of them are quiet most of the time (egg song excepted) and one is very vocal whenever I'm out in the back yard. Generally they are quiet though. Mine don't particularly like to be held but will stand for being stroked and petted. I also have 2 buff orps and they are very quiet and are definite lap birds.

My first Delaware is unzipping right now. I have 8 other shipped eggs out of 9 make it to lock down. :) Very excited.

I should be hatching around (60) Delaware's in February. Cant wait to fill up my cabinet incubator. Going to hatch (164) total. Have others who need some.

I would really like to do something like this too but I need to find the space. I love this breed. Even though my first ones are hatchery ones they are such good birds.

My Delaware Roo Popeye is terrified of the flashlight lol. I go into the coop at about 6:30 to close it up and it's dark so I bring the light, and that silly boy tries to kill it every time.
