Delawares

David,
My Delaware isn't aggressive, but she is definitely the leader of the pack. She is a good forager and as you mentioned very strong and healthy. I can pat her and she will occasionally fly up on my shoulder when I am bent down to fill the water, but other than that, she is pretty independent and struts around like she owns the place. If you want a hen that is a good layer and very healthy, not to mention pretty good looking! Go for the Delaware. You won't be disappointed.

These sweeties are about 13 weeks old. I only have 4 Delawares. I think three are hens, and one is a roo. The three are super sweet, and the one is somewhat skittish. I think the first one is the roo.

Please ignore the SS...unless you can sex it.

I wasn't able to get all of the Delawares, it was hard to get the last photo, all because they wanted to get pets and see what I might have for them. All thoughts on boy or girl would be greatly appreciated.

I have three eight week pullets, and they are like little raptors. They stalk you So they can bite you. This is my first experience with delawares. I thought they would be friendly birds but they are all stinkers!

I went to the feed store for hay. No new chicks this fall - oops. I wanted to add Delaware chicks & there they were. I'm a bit concerned about everyone saying they're mean. Every where else says their are docile. Time will tell.

HA! Chicken math! I love my Delaware. Wish I had more. Very docile, heat tolerant, not flighty, coops up well, great layer and absolutely not mean to me or my other 14 hens. She's not sweet and cuddly at all, but goes with the flow. Eats out of my hand, causes no problems, lays beautiful big eggs.

My dog is cuddly, all I need. The cat isn't all that affectionate either.

My dels are great not much hands on birds but friendly enough that I can stroke and pet them if Im not trying to pick them up. get along with my other breeds but those are docile too. There is a pecking order but not mean.

My Dels have grown out of their love of being picked up. They free range with the rest of the flock. They still let us pet them from time to time. They let us feed them from our hands, and the other day I went to the feed barrel, when I bent down to get food, one perched on my back. I didn't freak out because my kids handled them all summer, and let them do that, so I knew it wasn't attacking. They are pretty sweet, but they were only hatched in late May, so they are far from full grown. :)

Looking for dual purpose delawares. Either mail order or near enough to Dayton Tn. to do a road trip pick up. Chicks or hatching eggs prefered.

Well that explains it. /img/smilies/smile.png
Mine have always been friendly and not at all aggressive.

Speckledhen, your Delawares are aggressive? Thats weird, I thought they were known for being sweet and docile. Maybe that doesn't apply for them all then.
