A friend of mine has suggested Delaware's as a good breed, being all I want them for is eggs & fertilizer. She said that they're pretty docile (<---spelling?) & clips their wings to keep them from flying. Just wondering if anyone has any info or suggestions for them or other breeds that would be good to start with?! And then on to should I get babies, or closer to full grown? The whole chicken coop thing is just so overwhelming....deciding on size & style. ~looking at starting off with 4-6 little ladies~

Help...I'm a newbie to it all!!

Yes I would recommend Delawares for a beginner, they are good layer.

The best layers are Leghorns but they are very flighty and not often broody.

Some other breeds you could look at are - Orpingtons, Plymouth Rocks, Australorps, Andalusians, Ameraucana's and EE's.

Ameraucana's and Easter Eggers ( EE's ) lay blue, green and sometimes pinkish eggs.

Thanks Luke!!
