The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Those huskies are beautiful. I bet they were troublemakers? Is that a blue Doberman or just the photo faded? How did you not keep all the puppies?

Absolutely gorgeous. Those little ones get me right in the heart. They are similar to the best dog I ever got to have in my life, and I still cannot speak about her without crying, nor share photos. She was my whole world. I've often thought about getting a Pomeranian. Yours is gorgeous.
The pom, Zorro, was a rescue. I was told that he was kept in a crate for a year and a half and used for breeding. Apparently he didn't want to do his job and the breeder felt like Zorro was too tall anyway. He's turned into such a wonderful companion. He has his quirks but then so do I. He definitely has to be the center of attention. I had to be in the hospital Monday and Tuesday this week and he has not left my side since I got home. The papillon, Sunshine, was an indulgence after my beloved rat terrier passed. She's not a yappy dog and she's such a sweet smart girl. She's also been glued to my side the past few days. I do get her trimmed because her hair gets so long it drags in everything.
If I could handle a big dog, I would love to have a redbone coonhound.

My best dog ever was half rat terrier. I keep debating getting another. My first one was 3/4 rat and 1/4 Jack Russell. She was a great dog too. Love rat terriers.

I love those! Gorgeous dogs.
We have had three coonhounds, 2 Blue Ticks and a Black and Tan. They like to sneak off to hunt, but a good goofy dogs if you can manage that aspect. The Redbones are gorgeous.

She's cute. I love dogs in general, but I prefer larger ones. My childhood dogs were all Dobes, but in the 80's in Ohio, we adopted a small dog from S.I.C.S.A. (Society for Improvement of the Conditions of Stray Animals). Rebel was to help my older son with something he was going through at the time. He came down with Parvo from the shelter and they took him back and gave him veterinary care and he recovered. He went to Utah with us, then back to GA.

When he died, we got Cody from a Petsmart adoption day. He looked like Rebel, but instead of 20 lb, he was 65 lb. And the first time I had to leave him alone to go to my part-time job, he destroyed the sunroom. I mean, he pooped on everything, got up on top of the hot tub cover, took the glass shelves out of a garden window and didn't break them. It was insane. My husband called me from the house at lunch, said he came home for lunch to check on Cody and found that, didn't want me to come back and see it unprepared, LOL. He was too smart for his own good, that one. A couple of years later, we adopted Kes. Her name at the shelter was Mollie, such a sweet dog. I had a meet and greet and brought Cody because he was so territorial and the worker said she could get "growly" with other dogs. Nope. They clicked.

He never did anything like that again. I wasn't even gone but about four hours. He took exception to it. He did live to 12 years old and Kes really missed him when he was gone. She lived about six more years. I'd love to have her back in a second.

Checking in just to check in. I've been so busy lately, getting Book #2 of the series ready to publish (which should happen by March 1), writing Book #3, about 1/3 way through the first draft, shaping an idea for another story, a standalone, doing chicken duties and keeping this place running.
Zara is still laying, crazy enough. She's 10 and keeps producing an egg every 2 days or so. The shell feels rough, shell a little weak, but holds together. I need saddles for both Hannah and Hazel, but couldn't even find my collection of them for some reason, looked everywhere. I know I didn't throw them away, but I ordered one. I'd have ordered two, but it was the last one available where I was looking. Ethel has been avoiding Angus consistently so she's still fully feathered.
Angus continues to be a big old goober. Two days ago, I let his bunch out at the end of the day for an extra hour. I was slow opening the pen door so this doofus jumped in the air and drop-kicked the door open. I scolded him because he is such a rude dude, LOL. He is a dancing fool. He has to escort me to the gate when I leave most of the time. He's intimidating from his size alone, but he's been really good.
Both Cricket and her daughter, Dove, are now broody. Glad I had a surplus of eggs for once. Iris crows with the boys every morning now. It's adorable coming from that teeny blue, bossy girl.
Back to work! Hope everyone is well. Our weather pattern had turned spring-like, back and forth so you can't wear the same clothing all day. Life in the N. GA mountains, 70* one day and a low of 10* the next week. Wild birds are singing more now, lots of nesting activity starting.
