Our chicks were due on the 18th, but still nothing yet. Should I be concerned?

We have 30 RIR eggs that, until recently, we thought were in the bator at 99.5 F. It turns out that they were between 92-94 F. The thermometer was bad. Since then (4 days ago), we have cranked the heat to near 100 and kept the water troughs full. Has anyone had a similar situation? How much longer should I wait before we start over?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi,

This is not an attempt to hijack your thread but perhaps just add to it. Hopefully this will help you too.

Last night I opened a dozen or so Ameraucana eggs that were 24 days old. I noticed something very strange when I opened them. According to this site: http://ag.ansc.purdue.edu/poultry/clipart.htm all the Ameraucana chicks had developed somewhere between 10 & 12 days. You can click on the appropriate day from that page to see what I mean. So here’s the weird part. After I broke the eggs open and dumped the contents into a bowl, at least a full half dozen or more of the embryos were moving in the bowl. Evidently they were still alive after 24 days of incubation and had only developed to the 10-12 day stage.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what was going on there? And what would have happened if I’d just left those alone for say another two weeks?

God Bless,
