I don't think it is God. It is the chicken wire. Chicken wire will not keep out most predators. If you will use hardware cloth you will have much better success. However, even then you still need to fasten it securely and some additional steps depending on your overall setup.

Chicken wire keeps chickens in but does not keep predators out. Hardware cloth is the way to go.
