Delicate Question on Horseback Riding

Thanks Wels. I think it just depends on what your gonna do with the horse as to the kind of horse you need to get. I will take mine out and ride several miles through the desert typically a couple times a week. He doesnt break much of a sweat but I can see the difference in muscle size. Once I get my new horse I will be looking at something about 17 or so hands tall and probably a Draft X. My next one is gonna be used to do alot more work and will be expected to be able to run. Also will be a couple years younger hehe

Hmmmm. I'm 6'5" and about 285 lbs (I don't drink beer so alas, no beer belly, but am working real hard at growing a good fried chicken belly) For me to look like I'm not riding a donkey I'd have to find a really long legged hoss. As it is I've always looked stupid riding because of my size. Sad, because I always LOVED riding. And after I got dumped on my head a few years ago by a "Kid broke" stud who was anything but, I learned a few things. First I'm too darned old for that crap, second it hurt a lot more than it did when I was a sprout, and third... what the heck was I thinking at my age anyway?
Now I'm building a nice little buggy. More my speed.

Boy I wish we still had some of the very large draft crosses I grew up with that were dead broke been there done that, well trained family horses. What a whole lot of fun those horses were. I think you'd look just fine on a big horse. As long as it's well broke.

You know, I bet if you biggie sized your buggy, you could find a nice broke driving horse down there that would suit.

We were near you a few years ago - Tishomingo. Well not real near.

Tishomingo is about 30 miles south of here.

so you were sure in my neck of the woods. I'm making the buggy small so my wife's scruffy quarter horse cull mare can pull it.

She loves that darn horse but I told her it's only pretty because there isn't a real horse standing close enough to make it look bad.

Oh well, she was a free-be. (The mare not my wife, she cost a BUNCH)

You don;t know how funny that really sounded at first because I had just watched an old episode of LAW & Order that dealt with mail order brides from Russia.

You're the same size as my husband and he rides every day, he's a cowboy. The funny thing is I invariably ride big horses, it just so happens that the gentle ones tend to be bigger, so there's 5' of me on a 16.3/17hh horse, and 6'4 of him on a 15.3hh horse. I always feel like I look stupid riding because I feel like I have the 'toddler legs' that are too short and stick out sideways.

I did a google search on the subject and I did NOT get the results I expected. My eyes, my eyes!

My research on that subject is done.
