My name is Delinah (del-e-na) and I'm 36. I was born and raised in New Mexico. I'm new to geese and decided to get them Saturday, April 5, 2014. I bought 3 African Geese from our local feed store that supposedly hatched on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. I bought them all the essentials including a big cage with a flat plastic bottom (lined with newspaper that's changed daily), a heat lamp with a 50 watt bulb, feeder, waterer, and when it gets warmer outside we've decided to build a beautiful goose coop for our babes. I'm so glad I found this site via Google when I needed help on how to raise geese. You all are so helpful and knowledgeable :) My husband Kevin and I have been married going on 16 years this month and together we have four sons - Kevin (15), Dominick (13), Jordan (11), and Austin (7). We love sports and my children play them year-around - football, basketball, and baseball. My youngest Austin was the one who felt we needed geese, he gets a lil lonely and these babes have certainly filled that void and have helped him to realize he needs to help. Personally, I'm a homebody - we live in the country and I truly love the quiet and spend most of my time at home watching television, reading or on the Internet. A few years back I got a blue-heeler and our Butch is such a funny, stoic guy that takes great care of us. Yesterday we put him in the back of my husband's truck to see if maybe he'd like to go for a ride and he was a lil uneasy. Eventually he wanted down and we were telling him to jump. He was like WHAT?! Being the smart guy he is, first he jumped onto my husband's toolbox that was on the ground and then onto a matt. We were so impressed and screamed for him and he was so cute - leaping and flipping for joy. We really love him and showed him the geese thinking he would be upset. Instead he put his ears back and down and got a lil scared. The geese are growing and it's amazing to see their progress and how they respond to my voice. We put them down to walk around in our kitchen while I was cleaning their cage and they kept waddling behind me. My kids thought it was cute! I'm looking forward to being part of BYC!
