Have had a variety of poultry through the years but currently do not have any. We have had ducks (several breeds- cayuga, khaki campbell, runners, swedish), a couple of geese, a few quail but mostly chickens - polish, rhode island red, domonique, cochin and a few others. Am now getting 6 new day old chicks - variety - Silver & Gold Laced Polish, Americana, Rhode Island Red, Spangled Russian Orloff and cochin. We are building a new chicken coop ( dog proof) We have a dog who is quite capable of killing - any suggestions? Also considering a few duck but not quit certain how we would incorporate them. We are retired and enjoy our pets.

Dogs, cats, predators that want to attack your birds generally find the perfect time to do so. I like to err on the side of caution and would not have the chickens free range but, have a large, Fort Knox of coop and run, that nothing else can breech. Please check out the predator forum for more specific advice.
