Dental implants, anyone?

I posted about possibly having a cracked tooth several days ago. Well, it was cracked, and very badly. It was otherwise healthy, no cavity, but it couldn't be repaired as it was cracked almost all the way to the bottom through the middle. The dentist extracted it today and I have an appointment in 2 weeks to check that the gum is healing and a consult with a periodontist for a dental implant. Does anyone have a dental implant and would you tell me about the process? I have done some reading about it today, and it sounds painful, but apparently is done under local anesthesia most of the time.

It feels weird to have a hole in my mouth. And I totally freaked my kids out today when I showed them my extracted tooth

I didn't tell them I had it pulled, I just called them over and unwrapped it.

Dentist told me about one because my son had to have a tooth pulled (luckily it's in the back of his mouth) but the price was around $2,000.00 and that is just more than we can afford.

I don't have them but I have a friend that does. He says that it hurt when he had them, all of his front teeth, first put in. But now he doesn't even think about it.
