Very depressing.....none even started but one....I have two hens and one tom. Why are they not fertile? They are Narragansetts and my first time hatching. I may get one if it hatches not due till the 18th of April. It defiantly has something in it though.

Did you crack any to see if they were fertile?

The first dozen or so that I got we cracked to look for the bullseye. It can be a bit subtle to see it. Eggs one through seven were not fertile. Number eight was and all since that.

like I said turkey eggs are hard to hatch! so dude get another batch ready, don't open the machine (incubator) only to put water in it, try agian! first year birds common, pull tom away from hens for 3 days, maybe he will look at them different ,other than his sisters, I run a teaser tom by the pen,all puffed out, struting his stuff, dancing to the beat of his own drum, in the pen as he walks by the hens squat and the tom in the pen steps up to do his duty!! yea baby! more than one way to skin a cat!!! tom!!!

Sorry your first batch didn't work out for you. I would definitely crack open a couple of eggs to see if they're fertile before trying again. I'm by no means a "turkey expert" but I don't think turkey eggs are hard to hatch, nor is it difficult to raise poults, and I'm a beginner! I've hatched in a smaller Brinsea and in a GQF cabinet bator.

Check for the "bullseye" and give it another go. Good luck, hope to see pics of poults from you in a month or so!

Sorry I could not find this thread and I must not have subscribed to it.

I put like ten in the incubator.....I have one in there left and due to hatch the 18th.....its just all black when I candle it. All the others I could see through them and nothing in there. After this one hatches I will try again. I have not gotten any eggs from my turkey hens in like 2 weeks....does anyone know why?

My husband did crack them all open after we candled them and just yolk they were not fertile. The hens have only been laying since dec. 2009.

Is he a standard bird or a broad breasted? Big toms have a hard time getting the deed done with small hens. That is why on many turkey farms they do AI on the hens.
