Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

I just wanted to say that Derperella is one of the reasons I lurked here. The stories about her are written so well, and she's such a character! I love reading about the rest of the brood too. In fact, I was so entertained by Derperella that I ended up reading out loud her story to my guy and telling about her to some friends. ;) While my guy knows nothing about chickens, he thought she was hysterical, especially her laying an egg on another hen!

I think one of the reasons I like Derperalla so much is that she reminds me of Simple Dog from Hyperbole and a Half. Here's a clue about just how simple Simple Dog is: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/07/dog.html She also makes an appearance in the story about why dogs don't understand moving: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/11/dogs-dont-understand-basic-concepts.html and her dog's adventure when she got loose: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2011/04/wild-animal-simple-dog-goes-for-joy.html I can only imagine the conversations Simple Dog and Derperalla would have if they ever met.

^^ I know, I love Allie Brosh's blog! I found it and the Deperella thread within a few months of each other, ironically enough. Simple Dog and Deperella...what characters!

Hrm, I am tempted to do more derped poetry, but I don't want to steal Nambroth's thread. All hail Fud Lady!

Nambroth, Are you out there? Derp has gone MIA and we all miss her staring face......Please let us know she is OK....

Derp is doing okay! I let the girls out every night for free ranging. Derp is growing back her head feathers, slooo--ooowly. She is missing her entire beard and muffs, thanks to Lorp. For some reason, Lorp decided that she was going to go out of her way to cause all the other chickens grief (except Moa, who is Boss Hen). Lorp has always been a diva and a bit full of herself, but this was too much. We got her a set of pinless peepers and now everything is calm again.

I brought home two new chicks to replace the ones I lost last year (RIP Loaf, the cochin... and fare thee well in your new home Gullin, the Rooster). They are Easter Eggers.. I love the beard and muffs, but I know now that more faverolles in my mixed flock might not be happy. I found someone locally that ordered a bunch of them from Cackle and she let me buy two.
Here's a little video clip of one of them having its first 'dust bath' on the carpet at 6 days old.

I'm sorry I haven't had any updates. I like to wait until I have some photos of Derperella to share, and I have been so busy it's hard to find time to breathe. I have several big shows coming up, and one is this weekend as part of an open studio tour. I am really nervous! I paid a lot to get in and show my art and jewelry. Lets hope it goes well!
