My acrylics are framed without glass so they should not be matted.

Thanks for the frame suggestions. Generally I go with what I like and what I can afford. Sometimes the best frames for the piece are out of my grasp. As it is, my custom frames regularly cost me over $100 each-- and that's with me framing them myself. I've easily spent thousands just to frame my pieces, with no guarantee that they'll sell. It's really scary when living paycheck to paycheck.

Quite right, your typical painting, especially on stretched canvas, doesn't get matted. Prints and photographs go under glass, so mats are used to lift the glass off the surface.

I completely understand, doing the starving artist bit myself. It's worth keeping an eye out on craigslist, I constantly see perfectly fine frames on awful prints that go for cheap. Some frame shops will cut an oversized frame down, so if you run into a behemoth of a frame with banged up corners you can get a tidy frame out of it.

Nambroth, I hope you don't find this to be off-topic, but I wanted to thank you SO SO much for your treatment of your hairclips! I love and adore feather jewelry and hairpeices, but can't find it in my heart to buy them at the store, because I know the birds behind them probably lived terrible and miserable lives, and I'd be supporting that.

I'm such a sissy that I feel bad about buying any kind of shell jewelry either. I feel aweful, causing the death of an animal just because it had the bad manners to be pretty. I can't even step on ants on the sidewalk, for pete's sake! (I just imagine myself toiling along, working hard to benefit my family, then someone out of nowhere kills me because I was there, and they could. eep!)

Anyway, I am thrilled to see the products that you offer, and look forward to my next paycheck, because I am SO buying one of your peices!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure most, if not all, shell jewelry is made out of seashells that are found after the animals have already died and left the shell.

I really wish that was true . Unfortunately it's a case of supply and demand, and there just arn't enough pristine shells that wash up to meet market demand. Shells on the beach are usually broken, or have lost their shine from being scoured by sand. In fact, in Hawaii, they've had to strictly control Paua hunting so that they don't get wiped out. But at least with them, they also use the meat, so it's not completely senseless.

I think artisans like Nambroth are wonderful, and care about their resources. All those "made in china" tourist trap shops.... not so much.

I just thought I would share that I was reprimanding my queenly Barred Rock (Seyda) and her compadres (Amelia, Lady and Sylvia) for trying to take over the high roost from my EE pullets (using their very intimidating pecking habits) and I said, "It's okay, you are just being big Moas." OMG SNOGGLE! Look at your dog! Wow, he is a biggie!

He was actually only 9 months old in that picture. I need a newer one. He's a little over two now and actually quite a bit taller (he can rest his head on my head when he "gives mommy hugs", like in the picture, and I'm 5' 4"). He's finally calming down now! I had several Great Pyrenees before - they were so laid back and independent. I had no idea Great Danes were so high strung and needy! He's literally 140 pounds of bounce and he can't stand being in a separate room from his people!
