So I had been putting off reading Jennifers Mareks article. Basically for two reasons. The first and most obvious because I know how it ended for poor Trousers. Secondly because in my mind when I see pics of him, he reminds me of my cochin roo Roody and I would be absolutely devastated to think of something happening to him or his two brothers. That being said I finally sat down two nights ago and started to read it....I have never bawled so much in my life...I can;t and won't finish it. I had to stop at the part where he goes to mouth breathing. I couldn't see anymore for crying. I had no idea so many of you guys had been there to go through this with her and him. And I was even more touched that people were even offering to pay for his vet bills. Nowhere on the iinternet have I ever met such a great and caring group of people. I am proud and honored to be a part of all this. What a handsome boy he was and how caring was his mama through all of it. My heart goes out to everyone and especially our very own Fud Lady for such good care he received until the very end....
Wow! I've never seen that breed before, and it's absolutely gorgeous! I love that golden body with the white tail...simply stunning!I have just finished this thread, wow it's long, it took me days, I love it, I've cried and laughed along the way.
I have got some characterful chickens as well, I have a chickadee equivalent called honey, she's a friesian and she comes straight over when I sit down and jumps on me for a cuddle with her muddy feet. I also have a derpy hen called pebbles, she's a Phoenix and she doesn't get social cues, if her mate phelix is separated from her she screams and screams, and if another rooster from another pen dances round her she just sirs there and only when it try's to mate with her does she try and run (which never works because she is tiny, she can perch on my fingers) so she has to fly onto my house roof.
I have seen you had trouble with your roosters, I did to, my first rooster was a gold laced Wyandotte, he got eaten by a fox so I had one son of his that was a cross between a GLW and an ex battery hen and he turned out really aggressive so I gave him to a friend and now he's a gentleman, he was only aggressive to hens not to people, and I still have a silkie cross that is aggressive so I'm going to eat him, and a frizzle rooster that is moving pens soon.
I have a Phoenix trio kept away in a stable, the rooster is sooooo tame, many a time I trip over him because he doesn't move!!!!
I also have a silver laced Wyandotte rooster who is fairly tame and has quite a laid back nature.
Finally my friesian rooster Sparta, he is a great rooster always finding food and looking for predators but also keeps the silkie and fizzle who are both bigger in check. He patrols the fence as I go past to make sure I leave his hens alone and follows me in the evenings to see me of, but has never attacked me.
Here he is
And here is my honey, strangely she has a sister called goldy that is a gold Frisian hen that was slightly under developed on one side of her body so I handled her the most and she was my favourite yet she Is still fairly wild
And here's a quick pic of my pebbles havin a flap about
Sorry for derailing derp,![]()
More derpy updates please, and probably a bit late but are you doing the plush derps
