Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Some news!!

I JUST got a call from my vet. The results came back from the Marek's blood testing that we sent away to the University of GA's Poultry Sciences dept. They ran several PCR tests for us and all came back negative for Marek's.

Now, these tests are not 100% accurate, but it's worth mentioning that they ran it several times and all were negative, so there's a good chance he actually is negative.

I had left an extra vial of blood with the vet, and she is going to have it tested for lead toxicity as she said that she's seen similar symptoms in birds before (leg problems and paralysis) due to lead. We should hear back on Wednesday. She said that even a single rogue BB on the ground is enough lead to cause serious problems for a bird of his size if he ate it.

We'll see where this goes

I am SOOOOO very happy to hear this piece of good news! My daughter and I have been watching and reading, and we are pulling for you!

Nambroth in case your worried he will drown, dont worry he wont, my wyandottes head down to my stream for the bugs and swim across even when its in flood, they are now strong swimmers and swim against the current. my frizzle rooster who's feathers are not water proof like the others tried it once, got very wet but still floated, and hes a large welsummer cross. so good luck and if your worried at first try him in the bath as it fills so he gets use to it getting deeper instead of just taking the plunge as it were

OMG nambroth, and mr. puddles, we are so stoked for you guys! Keep pulling through, you have a fan base like no rock band could even brag about. everyone on the planet is pulling for youguys! Best of health and the very best wishes for you and yours to continue.... fight the fight.! We love you....

Nambroth, we know that you are really busy at the moment (hopefully painting some ACEO's

), but I'm sure that I'm not the only Derp fan wondering if you've had the results of the Baron's lead toxicity blood test?

Not yet... I forgot that Monday was a postal holiday, and so the blood was not shipped overnight until Tuesday. Then the vet office is closed Wednesday!! My vet is supposed to call me back today. She generally does her callbacks at the end of the day, after she's seen all her clients. I know she had an emergency beak repair on a parrot today (the receptionist posts lovely photos on Facebook) so it might not be until after 5pm.

In other news, Baron is still doing fine. Today he is sailing the towely seas!! He loves to arrange the towels and dust bathe in them, and then he sits on top of them proudly.
Sorry for the flash, it's very overcast here today.

He can stand on his own and can take a few shaky, stiff steps before he has to sit back down again. He does this a few times per hour!

He's looking lovely Nambroth - fingers crossed for the results. Standing up on his own and trying to walk seems like an improvement - you are obviously taking really good care of him.

x2. It's so lovely and inspiring how much care and love you give to your chickens. I'm glad there are hearts like yours in the world.

Just thought I'd show you photos for contrast...
This is Baron Rufflerump when this mystery illness began:

Look how much comb and wattle he's grown in since then!
